Gareth Bale is back in the transfer headlines, with Manchester United reportedly set to launch a £60 million bid for the Welsh winger.

The report in the Daily Mirror claims Bale is being targeted as the first major signing under new manager David Moyes. Despite speculation surrounding the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Moyes is eager to secure the services of Bale more than any other, and is believed to be a key factor in vice chairman Ed Woodward's decision to return home from a pre-season tour of Australia for transfer negotiations.

Bale has been heavily linked with Real Madrid for some months, but given the recent poor publicity for United after Wayne Rooney departed the tour early, the Premier League champions are willing to smash their transfer record to boost confidence heading into next season.

Reports concerning the future of Luis Suarez vary though. The Daily Mirror states Arsenal are leading the race to sign the Uruguayan striker, while Real Madrid are maintaining a tough stance over the transfer fee. The Liga giants are willing to part with just £25 million for Suarez, well below the valuation of Liverpool.

However, the Daily Mail reports the Gunners may miss out on Suarez and Higuain, as an exchange deal between Real and the Reds is set to take place. Both strikers are in high demand - including from Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who is desperate to bolster his attacking stocks - and it is said Liverpool and Real Madrid believe a swap would be in their best interests.

Another in-demand front-man, Christian Benteke, is bound for crucial talks with Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert on Thursday. The Belgian is eager to seal a move to a bigger club this summer, but Lambert is willing to hang on to the striker, even if it means shutting him out in the cold alongside the likes of Shay Given, Alan Hutton, Stephen Ireland, Barry Bannan and Darren Bent, The Sun reports.
