Gonzalo HiguainAssociatedGonzalo Higuain is heavily linked with a Premier League move

Gonzalo Higuain appears destined to join Arsenal in the coming days, with the Guardian reporting the Argentina striker has agreed terms with the Premier League club.

It is claimed Higuain is happy with the four-year deal offered by the Gunners, who hope to have the move completed before they depart for their pre-season tour of Asia on July 11. The deal would break Arsenal's previous transfer record of £15 million, but hinges on Higuain's current club Real Madrid hiring a new manager to make the final decision.

The Daily Mail, meanwhile, insists both Higuain and Manchester United's Wayne Rooney are poised for a switch to the Emirates. Arsene Wenger would need to part with up to £50 million for the attacking duo, leaving him a further £20m million to spend for the remainder of the summer. Chelsea are also in the hunt to sign Rooney, who is unsettled at United and has had a topsy-turvy relationship with new manager David Moyes after their time together at Everton.

Chelsea are also confident Juan Mata will stay at Stamford Bridge. According to the Daily Mirror, manager Jose Mourinho will contact the midfielder - who is in Brazil on international duty at the Confederations Cup - to emphasise his importance to the team. It had previously been reported Mata would leave the Blues this summer after an early bust-up with Mourinho.

Finally, Southampton have beaten the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Inter Milan to the signature of Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama. The Kenyan is set to join the Saints in a £10 million transfer, the Daily Mail reports. The 21-year-old has just one year remaining on his current contract, and Celtic are understood to have caved to transfer market pressure in allowing him to depart for the Premier League.
