Manchester City are bracing themselves for an attempt from AS Monaco to lure Vincent Kompany away from the Etihad Stadium, the Daily Mail reports. The Ligue 2 champions are on a significant recruitment drive ahead of their return to Ligue 1 and City's captain is the number one target for Claudio Ranieri's defensive stocks. But although Monaco are set to offer a bumper £26 million for Kompany, City have balked at the prospect of losing the Belgian and are prepared to reject any offer they receive.

But Monaco will immediately turn their attentions to a number of other high-profile recruits, with Porto duo Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez reportedly set to be unveiled as the club's latest signings. According to the Mirror, both players successfully passed their medicals at the French club and will be part of a £60 million joint-deal. That rules long time Moutinho admirers Tottenham out of the race for the midfielder and marks what is expected to be just the beginning of Monaco's spending spree. Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao is reportedly close to joining the club, with Russian owner Dmitry Rybolovlev apparently ready to provide the cash for one of the most expensive moves of the summer.

Brazilian newspaper Lancenet report Chelsea youngster Lucas Piazon could join Liverpool next season. Piazon is currently on loan at Malaga, but is likely to follow Manuel Pellegrini out of the club and may not be required at Chelsea if Jose Mourinho takes over at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool are currently favourites to sign the 19-year-old and his fellow Brazilian Philippe Coutinho, who has impressed since moving to Anfield in January, could be a deciding factor in the deal.

Titus Bramble could lead an exodus at Sunderland, with Paolo Di Canio apparently ready to wield the axe after narrowly escaping relegation. According to the Mirror, Bramble, Phil Bardsley, Connor Wickham, Danny Graham, James McClean and Matthew Kilgallon are set to be shown the door in preparation for a flurry of summer arrivals at the Stadium of Light.
