The race to sign Swansea defender Ashley Williams is heating up, with Liverpool confident of snaring the 28-year-old out of Arsenal's grasp. Brendan Rodgers has long been an admirer of Williams and, according to the Sun, has already included the Welshman in his plans for next season. Arsenal reportedly had a £9 million offer for Williams turned down in January, although the Swans will have a difficult time trying to retain him in the summer with a number of Premier League clubs circling. It is believed Swansea expect an offer in excess of £12 million for the player, which may be a barrier for Liverpool unless they are able to attract significant cash for the sale of Andy Carroll.

Former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini has expressed a desire to return to the Premier League, the Mirror says. But, in a sign of his gradual demise since moving to AC Milan, the Frenchman is likely to join either Aston Villa or Southampton. It is believed the 29-year-old has already begun preliminary discussions with both clubs to secure a switch next season and he will only sign a contract with minimum terms of two years. The midfielder would be a valuable asset to either side if they remain in the top flight, but may have to take a pay cut despite having his wage reduced last year to remain at the San Siro.

The Daily Express reports that Liverpool target Christian Eriksen has been sounded out by fellow Premier League side Newcastle. The midfielder is likely to make a move to England, with the Reds frontrunners for his signature and Spurs also closely monitoring his progress at Ajax. After a standout season in the Eredivisie, including solid performances in Ajax's Champions League campaign, Eriksen will only be sold from the club for up to £17 million.
