Chelsea to 'fro money at Fellaini
PA PhotosFellaini is on the radar of Chelsea.Chelsea have run the analysis, scrutinised the results and finally found the answer for their recent woes – a lack of a six-foot, afro-sporting, ball-carrying midfielder.
According to The Sun, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is preparing an audacious £30 million bid for the Everton cult-figure Marouane Fellaini, hoping to form an all-Belgian partnership with Eden Hazard in the centre of the park.
Adding fuel to the fire, Fellaini has publicly stated the Russian tycoon should make a bid if he's serious of adding him to Chelsea's heaving wage bill. However, Fellaini has also claimed should Everton finish in a Champions League spot then there would be no way he could leave the Toffees.
Another rather interesting line from the paper is that Abramovich will be forced to axe interim boss Rafa Benitez should Chelsea lose to Wigan today - and Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has been touted as a potential replacement.
Chelsea's North London rivals Arsenal have also been busy in the diagnosis of their poor season, and unsurprisingly, the heart of the midfield is, well, the heart of the problem. Not since the heady, combative days of Patrick Viera and Gilberto Silva have Arsenal had a true ball-winning, no-nonsense defensive midfielder to call upon.
Not for long, reports the Daily Telegraph, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger keen to bring France international Etienne Capoue to the Emirates Stadium. Having failed to capture the 24-year-old in the January window, Wenger has made it his mission to bring the hard-man across the channel next season.
Meanwhile, the Neymar merry-go-round continues to gather speed with Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo claiming Manchester City are prepared to hand Santos a 'blank cheque' for the 21-year-old's signature. According to the article, City's sporting director Txiki Begiristain has reportedly met with agent Pini Zahavi in a bid to cut-off other European suitors.
However, Mundo Deportivo believes Barcelona have already won the Neymar race, paying a €10 million deposit and signing a pre-contract agreement with the Brazilian star.
