Diame's contract talks take a Hammering
PA PhotosMohamed Diame has been a key player for West Ham this seasonArsenal and Tottenham failed to prise Mohamed Diame away from West Ham in the January transfer window, but both clubs could resume negotiations in the summer with the Hammers unwilling to give into the 25-year-old's demands. According to the Sun, Diame's deadline day talks over a possible extension at Upton Park failed to yield a solution as the Senegal international requested £80,000-a-week. Although reports suggested the Gunners and Spurs triggered Diame's £3.5 million release clause, the midfielder will remain at the club until the summer. It now seems likely that one of the London clubs could snap up Diame next season if they are willing to match his wage demands.
Still with the Sun and it seems David De Gea is facing a race against time to prove his worth at Manchester United, with Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic reportedly waiting in the wings. After the Potters secured Birmingham keeper Jack Butland for next season onwards, Begovic has put United on notice after Sir Alex Ferguson expressed interest in him. The Bosnian would almost certainly challenge De Gea for the No. 1 spot at Old Trafford and could request a move to avoid the competition of having Butland at the Brittannia.
Edinson Cavani's release clause at Napoli - reportedly around the £54m mark - kept even Manchester City at bay in the January transfer window, but the striker has told potential suitors that he will be worth the hefty price tag. "If a club has a clear project and they want to focus on me, they can't be frightened in front of this figure," Cavani said, according to the Mirror. The Uruguayan insists he is happy in Italy but has not ruled out a summer move.
