01:00 GMT: Here's a look at what is making headlines in Wednesday's papers.

Just a matter of hours after finalising a deal for Mario Balotelli to move to AC Milan, Manchester City have already set about replacing the troubled striker. And fans could happily forget the Italian if City are successful in their pursuit of Barcelona forward David Villa. According to the Mirror, the Premier League champions are ready to launch an audacious bid for the Spaniard, although Barca have insisted that Villa is not for sale. Arsene Wenger confirmed on Tuesday that Arsenal were turned down by the Spanish giants, but Roberto Mancini is supposedly ready to make an offer for Villa, who is rated at around £15 million. The club is hopeful of ending negotiations quickly and signing the 31-year-old before Thursday's deadline.

Chelsea may have found a long-term replacement for Petr Cech as Birmingham have paved the way for the Blues to begin talks with goalkeeper Jack Butland, the Sun reports. Butland has been chased by a host of Premier League clubs - including Liverpool, Everton and Fulham - but it seems Chelsea lead the race to sign the 19-year-old. It is believed the European champions will bid around £3.5m for the youngster and the offer may be too good to refuse for Lee Clark's side which faces growing financial uncertainty.

Stoke could make a last minute move for Aston Villa striker Darren Bent, although they would be forced to sell forward duo Peter Crouch and Kenwyn Jones to free up some cash for the wantaway player. According to the Mirror, Potters boss Tony Pulis has informed QPR and Swansea that they are free to chase Crouch and Jones respectively, with Bent likely to take up the offer to leave relegation-threatened Villa. Charlie Adam could also leave the Brittania before Thursday as Stoke's attacking ranks receive an overhaul.
