Paper Round-up: Cut-price Ronaldo
GettyImagesCristiano Ronaldo became an Old Trafford icon during his six-year spell at Manchester United If Manchester United are genuinely interested in luring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, they will only need to spend around £60 million, The Sun reports. A figure of £122 million was originally quoted by many sources as speculation over Ronaldo's future escalated in recent weeks. However, it is believed David de Gea and Nani could be used as a partial-swap for the Portugal international forward. While Paris-Saint Germain are also understood to be keen on signing Ronaldo, United are his preferred destination.
United are also linked with Crystal Palace youngester Wilfried Zaha in the Daily Mirror. Reports claim Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to launch an £8 million bid for the winger this week, which would see United go head-to-head with Arsenal for his services. Palace boss Ian Holloway insists Zaha will not leave in January but the two Premier League giants could force a move should bids continue to roll in.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the Premier League table, QPR are linked with Liverpool playmaker Joe Cole in the Daily Mail. Harry Redknapp is desperate to avoid relegation and has been given a substantial amount of transfer funds in order to realise that dream. It is believed that Cole - who played for Redknapp during their time together at West Ham - is a key January target for the R's. A loan deal is also a possibility, should Liverpool agree to QPR's proposed terms.
