Sunday's big headlines are dominated by transfer speculation out of Real Madrid. The Sun reports that Real are chasing Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea and they are ready to make a £22 million bid for the Spaniard next summer. Such a deal would represent a profit for United, who recruited De Gea from Atletico Madrid for £18.9 million in 2011, but could signal the end to Iker Casillas's time with Los Blancos. Casillas was forced to watch from the sidelines as Real slumped to a 3-2 loss at the hands of Malaga, sending a warning to the veteran that Jose Mourinho is ready to make significant changes if required. It is unlikely De Gea will be happy to play second fiddle to Casillas and his move could be decided by the 31-year-old's relationship with Mourinho. A close source told the Sun: "De Gea is definitely wanted by Mourinho but a lot depends on his own future. But he [Mourinho] has studied De Gea's form closely and is very interested."

Added to the seemingly endless list of Real targets is Chelsea's Ashley Cole. According to the Mirror, the Spanish giants and Paris Saint-Germain are the frontrunners for Cole's signature after the 32-year-old rejected Chelsea's one-year contract extension. Unless the Blues offer him an extended deal, the England international is likely to look abroad with Real and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly both ready to offer three-year deals. With both Manchester clubs also awaiting Cole's decision, it looks like it will be difficult for Chelsea to retain their defender.

Ryan Shawcross could be playing for more than just three points when Stoke travel to Manchester City on New Year's Day. The Daily Mail says City is ready to swoop for the England defender if he turns down the Potters' offer of a six-year deal. Shawcross would like to wait until the summer to decide his future, although Stoke are reportedly frustrated by his refusal to accept the long-term offer. That could mean that Shawcross is up for grabs in January and he may be an immediate replacement for the departing Joleon Lescott.
