Paper round-up: Gunners Christmas shopping in Barcelona
PA PhotosDavid Villa has failed to cement his place at Barcelona this season, despite finding the net on a number of occasionsThe sheer speculation of David Villa heading to Arsenal is enough of a Christmas present for Gunners fans, but Arsene Wenger is seriously contemplating a bid for the Spanish striker, according to the Daily Mail. Villa returned to action earlier this season after an extended injury lay-off but has since failed to cement his place in Barcelona's line-up. The Mail says Arsenal are keen to secure Villa in a loan move until the end of the season, with the option for a permanent deal if he settles in well. It's a win-win situation, with Arsenal promising Villa regular action and the London club bolstering their squad with a potent forward. It could also halt Wenger's pursuit of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Beggars are warned not to be choosers, but Demba Ba clearly didn't get that memo. The Newcastle striker has reportedly turned down a remarkable £80,000-a-week offer to join QPR, the Sun writes. It is believed Rangers were ready to capitalise on Ba's £7.5 million release clause and the Senegal international could have been a much needed addition as Harry Redknapp's men look to salvage something from this season.
Still with the Sun, who say Jose Bosingwa has been hit with a whopping fine of £100,000 for refusing to sit on the bench for QPR's first win of the season against Fulham last weekend. The Portugal international apparently had a tantrum when his name was omitted from the Rs starting line-up and he stormed out of Loftus Road, claiming he didn't want to be used as a substitute. Bosingwa didn't make the trip to Newcastle with the rest of his side on Friday, although the club insisted it was due to a back injury and not disciplinary reasons.
Wilfried Zaha must feel like a child in a toy store at the moment. The Crystal Palace youngster has attracted interest from just about all of the Premier League's top teams, with Manchester United the latest side hoping to snap him up in January, the Mirror says. Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger could ultimately fight it out for Zaha's signature, with the England international having the luxury of choosing the most lucrative offer. But Palace boss Ian Holloway is adamant the 20-year-old isn't up for sale just yet and United may have to hold out until the summer.
