Tottenham are preparing to make another play for Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao in January after missing out on his signature in the summer, the Daily Mail reports. Spurs reportedly attempted to have Coentrao included in the mammoth deal that saw Gareth Bale move to Real Madrid, but the two clubs were unable to reach an agreement. The Portugal international was also close to joining Manchester United on deadline day and his failure to cement a place in Carlo Ancelotti's starting XI could give the Premier League clubs hope of striking a deal. It is likely that Andre Villas-Boas could secure Coentrao on loan for the remainder of the season if he chooses to leave Madrid, although the hope would be to have an option to make the move permanent.

Juventus legend Andrea Pirlo has been linked with a surprise move to Besiktas, but the Turkish side are expected to make an offer more than 1 million euros less than what the midfielder is currently on. Turkish newspaper Fotomac says Besiktas will put a deal of 2.2 million euros per year on the table for Pirlo, but reports suggest he currently earns 3.5 million euros in Turin. Pirlo comes off contract in June and is yet to secure a new deal with Juventus, meaning the club could request a minimal fee to avoid him leaving on a free.
