Tottenham have reignited the debate over Christian Benteke's future as they aim to lure the striker away from Aston Villa in January.

The Daily Mail reports Spurs are seeking to complete a £28 million transfer when the window re-opens, despite the 22-year-old signing a four-year contract a matter of months ago. Indeed, Tottenham and Chelsea both pursued Benteke in the summer, but ultimately Villa persuaded the Belgian to stay with the club after many weeks of speculation.

It is claimed Villa would want a figure closer to £35 million if they were to sell their star in January, but it is unknown if Spurs would be willing to match that valuation.

Southampton are also in the market for January reinforcements, sparking up interest in Italy defender Davide Astori once again, according to a report in the Daily Mirror. The Saints monitored Astori in the summer before signing Dejan Lovren, and is now back on the Premier League club's list of desired transfer targets. Offers around £10 million will likely tempt Cagliari to part with the 26-year-old.

United States international Brek Shea is reportedly seeking a loan move away from Stoke with his playing time under Mark Hughes currently frustrating him. The Daily Mirror states Shea -- who moved to England from MLS outfit FC Dallas in January -- is desperate to secure more game time in the second half of the season, after seeing action in only one match under Hughes thus far.
