Paper round-up: RVP in 'elbow' storm
Most of Monday’s back pages are dominated by Robin van Persie's alleged off-the-ball elbow on Yohan Cabaye during Sunday's Premier League game between Newcastle United and Manchester United at St James' Park.
The video evidence is not completely clear-cut, but it could still give the Football Association grounds to charge the striker, who would face a three-match ban if found guilty. He would be likely to miss the home game against Stoke City plus away games at Chelsea in the League Cup and the Premier League in the space of a few days.
"Ban the Van," says the Daily Mirror, while the Sun goes with "Robin Elbow Storm". The Daily Mail's "Really Violent Player" is a little contrived.
But last season Wayne Rooney was not charged after appearing to elbow Wigan's James McCarthy, with the video evidence seeming to be far clearer in that case.
On to international news, and most of the papers seem to have been tipped off that Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand and Liverpool's Jonjo Shelvey will be added to the England squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers.
Kieran Gibbs is definitely injured while Frank Lampard is struggling. We're wondering which of Roy's old Liverpool boys he'll call up next. And it is also expected that Ashley Cole will be axed from the squad after that tweet.
And finally, the Daily Mirror reports that Arsenal will again look to reopen talks with Theo Walcott over a new contract over the next fortnight. He would be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January, with his contract expiring next summer.
