Paper review: Reds ready to pay Ba bill

Posted by ESPN Staff

The Daily Star Sunday catches the eye on Sunday morning with the claim that Demba Ba and Andy Carroll could be trading clubs in January.

Now, you'll have noticed that Andy Carroll is currently on a season-long loan at West Ham, but that may not be an issue as it seems there's a January recall clause. The fact that he's already played for Liverpool and West Ham this season and so presumably wouldn't, under FIFA rules, actually be eligible to play for Newcastle until next season.

It wouldn't be massively surprising if Ba pitched up at Anfield in January, though, so perhaps that's the crux of the piece.
Meanwhile, the Sunday Express seems to think Damien Comolli could end up as director of football at Tottenham after he was spotted at White Hart Lane last week.

You'll recall that he wasn't exactly an unqualified success at Spurs last time around, and that he was at least partly responsible for the Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson spending spree at Liverpool, which culminated in him getting fired shortly after the owners revealed they'd shelled out for Downing on the basis of a YouTube video that wasn't actually based on real footage. Poor old AVB.

Finally, the Mail on Sunday says Cristiano Ronaldo wants to be the best paid player in the world and that Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain would all like to help him do so. This may well be true, but we won't get too excited about this type of rumour for the time being.
