Paper review: Roberto playing fair?

Posted by ESPN staff

Financial Fair Play. It's all a bit weird isn't it? Well, Manchester City are the club who will be the ones in the spotlight should anyone from the Premier League be banned for overspending, but manager Roberto Mancini is showing no signs of slowing down according to the Mail on Sunday.

"If we want to stay on top with all the other teams that spend a lot of money in the last 10 years we need to improve and buy top players," said the City manager. Is that fair? UEFA will decide and obviously they will have to adhere to some pretty strict rules once they do actually start in ernest.

So anyone who is worried that transfer deadline day might become a bit of a drag with the focus on loan moves, dull deals and meaningless gossip can rest easy. Roberto is not done yet.

The good news from City's point of view is that skipper Vincent Kompany is going nowhere. He told the Sun: "I am convinced that I can win just as many honours with City as I could with Barcelona or Real Madrid." Perhaps Vince, but it's colder in Manchester...

According to the Sunday Mirror, Malaga striker Isco is a hot property. The Spaniard is attracting the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham but Arsenal, Manchester United and Juventus are also tracking the 20-year-old who may leaving the club if they suffer any more financial woes. Perhaps the clubs tracking him are thinking about all the cash THEY will save on his shirt letters.

And finally, Pantene are going all weak at the knees at the prospect of having David Ginola fronting up their shampoo campaign again. He is back and targeting a managerial job in England. "I’m passing my coaching badges in England. I need them to manage a team in the Premier League," he said.
