22.13 BST: Here's the latest from the Observer on Cristiano Ronaldo's future: "Ronaldo has told Manchester United he is keen on a return to club, but the move is not expected to happen until 2014." We can roll up our sleeves for an almighty transfer saga next summer, then, people.

21.37 BST: Roma coach Rudi Garcia on reported Tottenham target Erik Lamela, according to Sky Sports: "I won't change what I said pre-season, which is that I wanted all the players in the squad to remain, but this is not the day to talk about the transfer market.

"There are two aspects to be considered: sporting and financial. At times the financial aspect comes first. I always consider the transfer market to be the worst time for a coach and the fact our season begins before the session has closed is irritating. We are working along with the directors and I trust they will give me a competitive squad."

19.42 BST: Sunderland manager Paolo di Canio has already signed 11 players this summer -- but he wants more before the transfer window closes. "When I asked 45 days ago for another central midfield player with a physical presence, with good quality and ability, preferably British, there was a reason,'' he said after watching the Black Cats draw 1-1 at Southampton. "I know this league better than some managers who have managed for 20 years in England. I know, this is why I continually asked for two more players with a physical presence.”

19.00 BST - DONE DEAL: ADO Den Haag have completed the signing of Denmark Under-21 international midfielder Mathias Gehrt from Brondby. He has signed a two-year contract.

19.00 BST: The latest in the Fellaini-Baines-Manchester United transfer saga: Roberto Martinez is not a happy man about the way it has all been handled. He said United must have expected that their £28 million bid for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines would be rejected, describing it as “nonsense”. The Everton manager accused his Goodison Park predecessor, David Moyes, of being disrespectful in his attempts to sign the midfielder and the left-back.

18.12 BST: Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has been speaking about the future of Yohan Cabaye. He said after their goalless draw with West Ham: "The situation is quite simple - we need to resolve the situation. We need to get ourselves in a position where if he stays, great, and if doesn't stay we need to get someone equally as good."

17:46 BST: Chelsea are looking to Porto if they can't lure Wayne Rooney to West London. The Metro say Jackson Martinez could make a £30 million move and become the focal point of Chelsea's attack next season, as ESPN FC reported during the week.

17:40 BST: Levante boss Joaquin Caparros has launched a verbal attack on the transfer window saying it favours the bigger clubs. He said in a press conference, "I do not understand why the market is open. It facilitates the larger clubs. The rules are mounted for those who have money."

17:31 BST: Fiorentina has given Adam Ljajic a deadline to accept rhe new contract put on the table for him. The Serb's future at La Viola has been in doubt all summer with links to AC Milan, Tottenham, Southampton, Roma and Atletico Madrid but general manager Sandro Mencucci says he 'has until Tuesday to decide' on what he is doing next season.

17:21 BST: Long-serving Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso has decided not to pen a new deal and instead seek pastures new out of France. Le10 Sport understand he has asked to leave the club and is seeking a move abroad with Fiorentina and Bursaspor showing interest in the 31-year-old.

17:15 BST: Marseille are looking to bring Al Ain striker Jires Kembo-Ekoko to Ligue 1. L'Equipe say despite interest from Bastia and Sochaux the former Rennes player would like a move to Marseille as he will be more likely to challenge for honours.

17:05 BST: Reports in France are saying Valencia's wantaway defender Adil Rami has decided to stay at Los Ches. L'Equipe say the Frenchman will remain at Mestalla unless a mega offer comes in for the central defender.

16:54 BST: Schalke are going to make an offer for Basel's silky winger Valentin Stocker according to Bild. After missing out on Arsenal's Lukas Podolski, Michel Bastos leaving and Klaas Jan Huntelaar's injury, the Miners are light up front and need more attacking players in the squad, with the 24-year-old Swiss the ideal target.

16:38 BST: PSG are going to blow Arsenal out of the water and sign Yohan Cabaye for £17 million; £2 million more than Arsenal are willing to bid for the Frenchman. Reports in France suggest Newcastle are waiting for PSG's bid because they do not want to sell to another Premier League club. The Metro say Laurent Blanc had to beg the PSG owners to make an offer after spending over £100 million already this summer.

16:26 BST: Earlier we reported Sunderland had made a bid for Roma's American midfielder Michael Bradley. Well reports are now emerging Roma have rejected that bid because the offer was near €5 million less than the Rome club want for him.

16:20 BST: Reports in Africa suggest Demba Ba is a wanted man in the Bundesliga with Schalke and Hoffenheim weighing up bids if Chelsea allow him to leave following their pursuit of Wayne Rooney.

16:11 BST: Parma president Tommaso Ghirardi has insisted there has been no contact from Juventus about potentially moving for forward Jonathan Biabiany. Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Ghirardi said, "Biabiany is a really important player for us and I don’t think there is now the time to conclude a deal for him anyway."

16:03 BST: Sporting Lisbon have told Diego Capel he is allowed to leave the club but any suitors will have to match their &euro7 million asking price. A Bola report the Spaniard wants to leave Portugal with Liverpool, Malaga and MArseille all interested.

15:54 BST: Livorno are close to signing Innocent Emeghara from Siena on a season long loan for €1 million. Sky Sport Italia report that despite only signing the player from Lorient this summer, Livorno have the option to buy half the player's rights at the end of the deal for a further €2 million.

15:42 BST: Following Andre Villas Boas' admission Gareth Bale won't be at the Swansea game tomorrow, AS has reported the Welshman has flown in to Malaga and is catching a cab to Marbella ahead of his world-record transfer to Real Madrid.

15:15 BST: Tottenham's transfer of Erik Lamela appears to not be as close as expected as the Argentinian has been named in Roma's 23-man squad heading to Livorno on Sunday. Rudi Garcia when questioned simply said he 'trusts the club' over Lamela's impending exit.

15:05 BST: They say club's don't listen to their fans any more. Well, Torino's ultras have protested so vehemently that the club has pulled out of a move for Sampdoria's Enzo Maresca because he used to play for Juventus and mockingly celebrated scoring an equaliser against them in 2002.

14:57 BST: Arsenal have been told by Valencia they will have to hand over €20 million for goalkeeper Vicente Guaita. Superdeporte say Los Ches would be willing to accept a bid of that amount, a full €10 million less than the goalkeeper's release clause.

14:49 BST: DONE DEAL Swansea City striker Luke Moore has joined Turkish side Elazigspor on a free transfer. Moore had his contract terminated early by Swansea in order to make the move.

14:46 BST: Reading's attempts to strengthen their squad look set to be put on hold as Nigel Adkins has decided he might wait and get a couple of loan signings in once the transfer window closes.

14:37 BST: Wigan boss Owen Coyle wants to sign Newcastle's Sammy Ameobi on loan for the season according to the Sunderland Echo.

14:30 BST: DONE DEAL Iago Falque's frustrating time at Tottenham has come to an end after Rayo Vallecano moved to sign the attacking midfielder on loan for the season. Rayo have an option to sign the 23-year-old on a permanent deal at the end of the season which is an option they're likely to take up.

14:15 BST: QPR's wantaway goalkeeper Julio Cesar has told the Metro he is flattered by the interest in him from Benfica. The Portuguese giants appear to be favourites to sign the Brazilian stopper who told the newspaper, "Benfica are a big club and I am proud to have been associated with them. I will speak to my agent to learn exactly what is going on."

14:04 BST: Lazio are favourites to sign Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz after his agent Ali Egesel told Corrierre Dello Sport, "Lazio are the only side in the running to sign him. They have made an important offer for him, but it has not been accepted for now because Galatasaray don’t want to lose him.” Last week it was reported a €25 million offer had been accepted but it is understood Galatasaray have rejected an approach from Lazio of about €10 million.

13:38 BST: ESPN reporter Kristan Heneage has told us Sunderland have submitted a bid for Roma's Michael Bradley. The fee is in the region of €7m but it is understood Roma want closer to €10million.

13:20 BST: Saint Etienne have made West Ham forward Modibo Maiga their number one target between now and the close of the transfer window. Director Dominique Rocheteau told RMC: "Maiga is one of three or four priority issues."

13:12 BST: Schalke are in talks with Arsenal star Lukas Podolski about a season-long loan to the Bundesliga club. The Metro says a deal could be made to bring the German international back to his home country after falling out of favour at Arsenal.

13:03 BST: Udinese's Romanian starlet Gabriel Torje is set to sign for German club Hamburg. Eurosport claims a deal is close and will be completed in the next few days.

12:55 BST: Rafa Benitez again adding to his list of transfer targets but this time we get a new name. Alvaro Arbeloa is the man on Napoli's radar and Il Mattino says it would cost around €10 million to lure the Real Madrid full back to Naples.

12:47 BST: Porto are reportedly in talks with Inter Milan about a move for young forward Juan Iturbe. Reports had suggested the meeting between the two clubs were about Alvaro Pereira, Fernando and Ezequiel Schelotto but Sky Sport Italia claim Iturbe was the main subject of the discussions.

Aleksandar Holiga, Croatian journalist, has confirmed on Twitter that there is nothing more to report on Spurs' bid to sign young Dinamo Zagreb starlet Alen Halilovic.

12:42 BST: Barcelona are keen on signing Chelsea target Elaquim Mangala from Porto. The Blaugrana's defensive frailties have been at the fore this summer with high profile moves for Thiago Silva, David Luiz and Daniel Agger all rebuffed. Mundo Deportivo believe a deal for the Frenchman could be close as Tata Martino looks to strengthen his back-line.

12:29 BST: Robert Lewandowski, who is set to join Bayern Munich next summer, has revealed to reporters he had turned down moves to Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid in the past year in order to help Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final.

12:22 BST: Sevilla are looking to sign Juventus midfielder Luca Marrone. Sky Sport Italia says there has been interest from Fiorentina and Everton but the Italy Under-21 international is now a target for the Andalusian club.

11:30 BST: Fiorentina co-owner Andrea Della Valle has confirmed that striker Adem Ljajic will be leaving the club before the end of the transfer window. Sky Sports say West Ham and Everton have been alerted to the news with interest from AC Milan, Tottenham and Roma also.

11:13 BST: Samuel Eto'o is set to leave Anzhi and his search for a new club has taken him many twists and turns to former clubs and managers but it now appears the Cameroon star's agent has contacted Real Madrid about a move. The Daily Express say Los Blancos are keen on a move for their former striker if Karim Benzema completes a move to Arsenal.

11:05 BST: According to Le Parisien, Florian Thauvin is in regular contact with MArseille president Vincent Labrune and lives in a hotel in Lille. He is not settling at the club and is seeking a move away from Lille.

10:53 BST: Liverpool are looking to sign £6m rated Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori. A Bola say the Reds made their offer after the injury to Sebastian Coates who is out for six months. Brendan Rodgers has supposedly been tracking the Portuguese U21 international for some time and is set to capture his man this time around.

10:47 BST: Real Madrid are preparing for the arrival of Gareth Bale with Marca claiming the €99m deal is set to be announced once Spurs complete a deal for Roma's Erik Lamela.

10:36 BST: West Brom are looking to sign Marseille winger Morgan Amalfitano. With Nicolas Anelka's impending retirement, the Baggies will be light up front and see the France international as a perfect replacement. Marseille are said to be willing to allow him to join West Brom on loan with a view to a permanent transfer next summer.

10:30 BST: Reports in Germany seem to think Manchester United are set to make a huge £38m offer to land Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid. Bild say the deal is dependant on Los Blancos landing Gareth Bale as they'll need to recoup some cash to fund the deal.

10:22 BST: Former Juventus winger Attilio Lombardo says Nani would be the perfect signing for the Bianconeri. The Manchester United winger's future at the club has been in doubt this summer and with his contract running out in 2014, the Premier League champions may decide to cash in now.

10:14 BST: Hamburg have made a £2.6m bid to sign Arsenal's wantaway striker Nicklas Bendtner. The Danish international has already rejected moves to Malaga and Frankfurt and Goal.com say he will only leave if his current wages of £50k a week are matched or exceeded.

10:03 BST: Arsenal are scouring Spain for a goalkeeper apparently. The Daily Express say after being turned down by Valencia goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, the Gunners have now set their sights on either legendary Real Madrid 'keeper Iker Casillas or the slightly less glamorous Espanyol 'keeper Kiko Casilla.

09:55 BST: Spurs winger Andros Townsend has vowed he will stay at the club this season and try and force his way in to Andre Villas Boas' starting line up. Townsend was touted for another loan move away but told reporters he does not want to leave the club.

09:45 BST: Manchester United are set to revive their interest in Chelsea's Juan Mata now that Willian has decided to join Chelsea. The Daily Express say the Spaniard is now free to leave Mourinho's Chelsea with the Premier League champions looking the most likely destination.

09:38 BST: David Moyes has begged former club Everton to allow Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines to leave Goodison Park and join him at Man Utd. Read the full story here.

09:31 BST: Everton and Sunderland have joined the race to sign Swansea City's Ki Sung-Yeung. The Sunday Times reporter Duncan Castles has said the South Korean is now surplus to requirements with Roberto Martinez and Paolo Di Canio desperate for his signature.

09:22 BST: Legendary Spanish goalkeeper Santiago Canizares has told Cadena Ser he doesn't see any issue with Iker Casillas considering his future at Real Madrid and making the switch to bitter arch-rivals Barcelona.

09:10 BST: Roma have joined the race to sign coveted Fiorentina forward Adam Ljajic. The Serbian international has been linked heavily with a move to AC Milan but it appears Tottenham, Southampton and now the Rome club are also in the hnt for his signature.

The gloves are off. The dust hasn't yet settled on the transfer saga surrounding Brazilian Willian but already barbs are being thrown between London clubs Tottenham and Chelsea, with Andre Villas-Boas declaring the Blues are scared of his Spurs. Willian was set to join Tottenham, even so far as undergoing a medical, before Chelsea gazumped the deal with a mega £30 million offer and, according to sources, lured the 25-year-old to Stamford Bridge. And the Mirror is reporting that has not helped relations between the two clubs, with Villas-Boas furious at his former employers, believing they hijacked the deal because Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho sees Spurs as a genuine title threat.

Meanwhile, the disappointment of losing Willian to Chelsea hasn't slowed Spurs down in the transfer market with the Daily Mail claiming the north London club have opened talks with Steaua Bucharest defender Vlad Chiriches. After losing William Gallas and Steven Caulker, Tottenham are in need of a new central defender and according to Villas-Boas, the 23-year-old Chiriches fits the bill perfectly. The Romania international has played over 50 games for Steaua and scoring five times, three of those goals coming in European competition.

And finally, Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto'o may not be moving to the Premier League with Spanish outlet Sport claiming the Cameroon international has been offered to Spanish giants Real Madrid. A move to England looked likely for the 32-year-old with Chelsea and Manchester United rumoured to be competing for his signature. Even interest from Inter Milan could not sway the speculation, Eto'o himself hinting at a reunion with Blues boss Mourinho. But it seems Anzhi had different ideas, with the Russian club hoping to offload the striker to Madrid.
