Suarez is expected to go into Barcelona’s B team rather than Gerardo Martino's first-team squad. He joined City from Celta Vigo two years ago and made two appearances for the club, both in the Capital One Cup.

19:00 BST: According to reports, Real Madrid’s online store has offered fans the chance to buy ‘Bale 11’ shirts… and with rumours that the world-record deal is set to be announced on Friday, that might not be jumping the gun too much.

18:33 BST: Willian: so, where will he go? Sky Sports have reported that the player, who is reported to have passed his Tottenham medical and had also been linked with a move to Liverpool, is now talking to... Chelsea. 17:40 BST: West Brom head coach Steve Clarke, who worked with former England Under-21 international Scott Sinclair at Chelsea, has voiced his satisfaction at having wrapped up his loan signing. “Scott understands he needs to play football and it will be good to work with him again,” Clarke said. “We’re delighted he feels this is the right club for him at this stage of his career.

“He is the type of player we were missing from the squad. He is a pure winger, who is quick, direct and scores goals -- he has proven that over his career. He can play off the right or left and improves our attacking options. I know him well and he is a good person, who I know is 100% committed to our cause.”

The Sun, the Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror state Bale's transfer to the Spanish capital could be finalised as early as Thursday morning. A fee of £94 million is expected to change hands, ending weeks of speculation and negotiations between Real and Spurs.

Meanwhile, the Guardian reports Tottenham's sporting director Franco Baldini has arrived in Madrid to complete talks. It is said Spurs are keen on making Fabio Coentrao a part of the deal, with Baldini set to put the squeeze on the La Liga giants in the closing portion of negotiations.

Andre Villas-Boas is expected to continue Spurs' spending spree as a result of the massive windfall from the Bale sale, with Willian, along with Roma's Erik Lamela and Miralem Pjanic understood to be close to moving to White Hart Lane. Should those players join Villas-Boas this summer, it would take Spurs' spending tally to £120 million. Given Financial Fair Play restrictions, such spending without the exit of Bale would be highly unlikely.

Across London and, despite claiming a valuable win the Champions League qualifying, Arsenal continue to look for answers in the transfer market. The latest player to capture the attention of Arsene Wenger is Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to the Daily Mirror and Daily Mail. Having given up on signing Luis Suarez, Wenger will be forced to spend in the region of £40 million for Benzema, while additions to the midfield in the form of Mesut Ozil and Sevilla's France international Geoffrey Kondogbia are also being touted.

Liverpool are doing their best to hold onto their talent, rejecting a £10 million offer from Napoli boss Rafa Benitez for defender Martin Skrtel. The Daily Mail claims the bid was turned down out of hand this week, but Benitez is eager to land Skrtel as he aims to make his mark in Serie A this season.
