He is working hard to do that."

Following Arsenal's defeat, The Times reporter Gary Jacob recalls Arsene Wenger's quotes from yesterday regarding transfers.

He told reporters after their match with Sochaux, "There are currently no offers that match what he wants. He wants to play in Germany." Given Newcastle are the only club to have bid for him, seems an odd thing to say.

15:30 BST: Andrea Caracciolo is now Norwich City's top transfer target after their bid to sign Fabio Quagliarella from Juventus failed. The 32-year-old is set to be offered a two-year deal by the Canaries if they can agree a fee with his current side Brescia say Sky Sport Italia.

He told Le Parisien, "I never said he wanted to leave our club, but with us playing Champions League this season, it is important that we should keep someone of his calibre." Labrune also revealed he has turned down bids for the Cameroon defender from Monaco and Napoli.

14:19 BST: Harry Redknapp has also not given up on West Brom outcast Peter Odemwingie. The Nigerian was made a fool of in January as he drove to London thinking he was going to the R's but instead no bid was ever made. He is said to be close to a move to Napoli according to the Mirror but Redknapp has not given up on his man.

14:12 BST: QPR are confident of landing Spurs striker Jermain Defoe. The Daily Star claim the R's have given up on Estudiantes' Duvan Zapata and are instead focussing their attention on the England striker.

13:22 BST: Pablo Osvaldo has been linked to more clubs this summer than is humanly possible and yet somehow has managed to be linked with just one more. Reports from various outlets suggest the Italian Roma striker is going to be used as a pawn in his current club's move for Atletico Madrid's Adrian Lopez.

It’s fine.”

12:25 BST: Ex-AC Milan defender Guiseppe Pancaro has told, "Honda and Ljajic? They are two good players with different characteristics, but they wouldn’t allow the team to take a step up in quality because they are not top players.” That's a damning verdict on the pair.

12:16 BST: Spurs just don't seem to want to stop signing players. Record say the Lilywhites brought a delegation to Portugal to watch Luis Neto play for his country against Holland. The Zenit St Petersburg defender is also subject to interest from Inter Milan but it appears Andre Villas-Boas is in pole position to land his compatriot.

Here is Rodrigo with some silky skills and impressive goals.

11:30 BST: Chelsea look set to bid for Benfica's young strike starlet Rodrigo to add to their growing crop of Europe's best young players. Having added players like Schurrle, van Ginkel and the return of Lukaku to their ranks, it seems Jose Mourinho wants more youngsters to add to his already talented group.

11:24 BST: Frank Lampard says he did not speak to Wayne Rooney about a move to Chelsea while on England duty last week. He told Sky Sports News, "I think Chelsea have made their interest known. That's a decision for them and Wayne to come to. I didn't speak to Wayne about it when I was with England last week. He was training and he was focused. I'm not privy to transfer stuff. That's for clubs to decide."

And here is what all the fuss is about. Florian Thauvin's short career in three minutes.

11:15 BST: Arsenal have been told Lille will not entertain bids below the £13m mark for Florian Thauvin according to French paper La Provence. They are thought to have put a hefty price on the 20-year-old's head in order to stave off interest from rivals Marseille.

10:45 BST: Barcelona's pursuit of a centre back has been no secret this summer with bids for Daniel Agger, David Luiz and Thiago Silva all knocked back. The Daily Express say the Catalan club will now go for Porto's Elaquim Mangala to plug the gap they've got in their defence.

10:26 BST: Monaco may have to sell Radamel Falcao after the French Football Federation and the country's tax authorities slapped the principality club with a £75m tax bill. The Colombian's huge wages are tax-free and clubs based in France say they are competing on an unfair playing field if Monaco can give their players tax-free wages. It is unknown whether billionaire owner Dmitry Rybolovlev will foot the bill or if the sale of their star forward after just a few months at the club will pay the bills.

10:17 BST: Samuel Eto'o will be happy to move to Chelsea with a pay-cut. The pay-cut however is down from £350,000 a week to just £300,000. The Metro say his agent has confirmed he would be willing to take a cut in his wages but that may not be enough to tempt Chelsea to part with that kind of cash every week for a 32-year-old.

And here is the night that pretty much made the man.

10:08 BST: BREAKING ESPN's Steffen Uersfeld has confirmed what many media outlets in Germany have been reporting that Robert Lewandowski has been given a pay rise for the final year of his contract. It's not a joke

09.57 BST: Navas signs for League Two Bury. No not Man City's Jesus Navas, his older brother Marco. The 30-year-old has moved to Bury on a 12-month deal but rumours suggest the deal is only in place to help younger brother Jesus settle in Manchester as he has suffered from anxiety attacks when he leaves his native Seville.

09.50 BST: Swansea's midfield schemer Leon Britton told the Daily Mail the Welsh club can only call this summer's transfer business a success if they hang on to their star names. Ashley Williams, Michu and Michel Vorm have been touted for moves out of the club but retaining them would prove Swansea are ready to remain in the big-time.

09.40 BST: DONE DEAL Belgian champions Anderlecht have signed Aleksandar Mitrovic from FK Partizan having reportedly broken their transfer record to land the 18-year-old. 05.10 BST: The Sun reports Everton have made a move for Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry, who is in the final year of his contract at Eastlands. City are said to be open to the transfer and do not want to stand in Barry's way of picking up regular first-team football this season.

Rooney is again the Gunners' top target, according to the Daily Mirror, after Suarez apologised to his current employers Liverpool and has been accepted back into Brendan Rodgers' squad for the start of the Premier League season. The reports come on the back of Arsene Wenger confirming he is still eager to sign a big-name player before the transfer window shuts.

Chelsea have already had offers for Rooney rejected by United and, though new boss David Moyes is adamant the England forward is not for sale, Wenger is now set to try his luck in order to give his side a boost as the season gets underway.

United, meanwhile, could miss out on signing Willian, who is said to be the subject of a £30 million bid from Liverpool. Spurs have also expressed their interest in the Anzhi Makhachkala man, but the Reds are prepared to make Willian their second most expensive player ever, the Daily Mail reports. Brendan Rodgers is also understood to be poised to capture Valencia left-back Aly Cissokho.

It's not all doom and gloom for United, though, with the Daily Mail stating last season's Premier League champions are continuing their pursuit of Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini. A £23 million deal is in the offing and David Moyes is believed to be increasingly confident of landing the Belgian in the next two weeks.
