Respect goes both ways Berbatov
Fulham's new striker Dimitar Berbatov has spoken out about losing respect for Sir Alex in the wake of his career at United dwindling into nothing. It is a shame that he has chosen to chirp up now, but he must have been frustrated.
As mentioned in an earlier post, Berbatov was possibly the right man at the wrong time for United. Unfortunately for him, he came along at exactly the same time as Barcelona started tip-tapping the ball around languid players of his fashion.
His touch and vision was exquisite and he was always capable of doing something special on the ball. But to get possession in the game now you have to run and run, which Berba seldom did.
This is my view on why Fergie froze the Bulgar out tactically. There could also be some truth in Berbatov's 2011 Champion's League Final tantrum being the end of things for him.
He wouldn't be the first player to have crossed Fergie and regretted it. See Roy Keane, David Beckham, Jaap Stam etc. for further reference.
But respect? The directors of Fiorentina and Juventus might have something to say about his views on this subject. Nonetheless, a man who scores a hat-trick against Liverpool will always be okay in my eyes. It is a shame it had to end like this though.
