Clutch Chicharito saves Man United

Posted by Paul Carr, ESPN Stats & Information

Javier Hernandez scored twice in the second half and created an own goal Saturday, giving Manchester United a 3-2 win at Aston Villa. United trailed 2-0 in the second half, but completed one of its trademark comebacks with Chicharito's 87th-minute winner.

" Manchester United leads the Premier League with 15 points from losing positions this season, after a total of three points in such circumstances in all of last season. In the Premier League era, United leads all teams with seven wins after trailing by two or more goals.

" Hernandez has been instrumental in United’s heroics over the past three seasons. Since joining the Red Devils, he’s tied for ninth in the league with 27 goals, with 15 of them giving United the lead. That ties him for second in go-ahead goals, trailing only teammate Robin van Persie, who has given his club the lead with 25 of his 56 goals.

" Chicharito’s go-ahead goal rate of 56 percent ranks second in the league during his career. The only player to score at least 20 goals with a higher percentage of go-ahead scores is Rafael van der Vaart, with 14 of his 24 goals putting Tottenham ahead (58 percent).

" Hernandez’s first goal nutmegged Brad Guzan from an uncharacteristic 15 yards, matching his third-longest league goal with United. All 27 of Chicharito’s league goals have come from inside the penalty area, and his average league score has come from 7.9 yards away, the shortest distance for any player with at least 15 goals over the previous three seasons.

" Hernandez is now on the longest scoring streak of his Manchester United career. He’s scored in five straight appearances, with a total of seven goals across Champions League, Premier League and League Cup competition. Before this run, he had never scored from open play in more than three consecutive games for United.
