Best Fantasy XI Gameweek 2

Sir John picks the strongest eleven fantasy players for each week of games. Selections are made strictly on the quality (or lack of) for each opponent, which explains why there are no Manchester United or Chelsea players listed since the teams face each other August 26. Budget restraints are not in force (player values are in parenthesis).

For the ten games of Gameweek 2, here is my Best Fantasy XI:

Goalkeeper:
Joe Hart, (7.5), Manchester City at Cardiff
Not likely to be as easy as creampuff Newcastle, but should be a clean sheet.

Defenders:
Leighton Baines, (8.0), Everton home to WBA
Baines and his teammates are still adjusting to Roberto Martinez, but a good chance for a clean sheet and a goal or an assist from the Englishman.

Jan Vertonghen, (7.3), Tottenham home to Swansea City
The Belgian recovered well from an injury and is a force.

Ryan Shawcross, (5.7), Stoke home to Crystal Palace
Not the greatest challenge for a member of a solid defensive line.

Midfielders:
Philippe Coutinho, (7.5), Liverpool at Aston Villa
This could be the game Coutinho opens his fantasy scoring account.

Santi Cazorla, (9.2), Arsenal at Fulham
The Spaniard is over his jetlag and ready to produce his magic.

Theo Walcott, (8.3), Arsenal at Fulham
Walcott and the Gunners need to get their act together without delay.

Kevin Mirallas, (6.2), Everton home to WBA
A good chance for the Belgian to find the net.

Forwards:
Rickie Lambert, (6.5), Southampton home to Sunderland
So far, Lambert is the bargain of the fantasy season and is hot.

Roberto Saldado, (7.8),Tottenham home to Swansea
The newcomer looked comfortable with his team and will be the featured player on attack.

Sergio Aguero, (8.2), Manchester City at Cardiff
The skipper in this team, lively and lethal, Aguero is back hungry for goals.

Substitutes:
Asmir Begovic, (8.5), GK, Stoke home to Crystal Palace
Pablo Zabaleta, (7.0), D, Manchester City at Cardiff
Yaya Toure, (8.1), M, Manchester City at Cardiff
Christian Benteke, (8.1), F, Aston Villa home to Liverpool
