Tuesday's World Cup Qualifying Matches and Premier Fantasy Players

Thank goodness the international break is just about over and we can get on with the joy of Premier League fantasy competition. The two weeks of Premier League deprivation had fantasy managers holding their collective breaths that players would get through the matches injury-free. However, there are injuries to at least four high profile players:

Terry, Chelsea - ankle
Krul, Newcastle - elbow
Kagawa, Manchester United - back
Van Persie - Manchester United - thigh

Premier players of note in the WCQ matches on Tuesday included:

Hungary 1 Netherlands 4

Van Persie got two knees to the thigh and came out at half-time. We wait to see how serious his injury is. SAF is wondering about two of his key starters for the home match against Wigan on Saturday.

Arsenal's Giroud, recovering from an injury, was subbed off at the 61-minute mark in France's 3-1 win against Belarus.

Belgium 1 Croatia 1
Vermaelen (Arsenal), Kompany (MC), Vertonghen (Spurs), Fellaini (Everton), Hazard (Chelsea), Mirallas (Everton), Dembele (Spurs), and Benteke (Aston Villa) were all in action for Belgium. Lukaku (WBA) remained on the bench.
Jelavic (Everton) played for Croatia.

Austria 1 Germany 2
Arsenal's Podolski was a sub for the last 15 minutes.

Serbia 6 Wales 1
Chelsea's Ivanovic and Man City's Kolarov each scored in the rout over Wales. City defender Nastasic also played. Spurs' Bale had the only goal for Wales, one of the few times he has scored in months for club or country. Swansea City's defender, Ashley Williams will be happy to return to the security of the Swans after seeing six goals shred the Welsh net.

Georgia 0 Spain 1
Chelsea's Torres did not play in the late victory for Spain. Man City's Silva was on for 64 minutes and bounced one off the post. Arsenal's Cazorla replaced Silva after 64 minutes.

Tonight the USA play Jamaica. Message to the Yanks: this is not the Jamaican Olympic bobsled team.

Tomorrow I will look at recently transferred players and their chances of playing on a regular basis with their new Premier League clubs.

Until then I remain,
Yours faithfully,
Sir John
