Bhoys to tackle the Old Lady of Turin
Awaiting the announcement of the last 16 Champions league draw, I was hoping and praying Celtic didn't get another tie against Manchester United - a tie that would have the usual Battle of Britain tag attribute too it - and in all honesty would have been boring in my opinion. Been there done that.
I wanted either Borussia Dortmund - mainly for the atmosphere at both games - or Paris St. Germain - because I would have free digs in the French capital since my Dad lives there.
But as Celtic all know now, it is Juventus. A team that the Bhoys have played four times previously back in 1981 and twenty years later in 2001 - winning twice and losing twice.
Could it be third time lucky for Celtic - beating Juventus over the two legs and doing the unthinkable progressing to the last eight? Well no one gave Celtic a hope against Barcelona and if it wasn't for that Jordi Alba last kick of the game goal - Celtic would have taken four points from a possible six against Barcelona. It is just crazy to think that even now.
Come the home leg in February, Celtic Park will be bouncing on its foundations as the fans show their support to a side that revel in their European underdog tag.
Celtic fans may mockingly sing 'we are off to Wembley' as they hope, pray and dream of what could be, in reality no one believes it will happen given the gulf in class between Celtic and those teams still in the competition - but no one gave Celtic a hope in hell of reaching the 2003 UEFA Cup Final.
As the cliché goes, football is a funny auld game, anything can happen and for Celtic and the fans - they will hope to push Juve all the way and do another Barca masterclass.
