Giwa FC expelled from Nigerian league after serious rule breach

Giwa FC have been expelled from the Nigerian Professional Football League for a serious rule breach.

The Jos-based club -- owned by Christopher Giwa, the man laying claim to the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation -- violated league regulations by failing to honour three league matches, automatically triggering the expulsion clause.

League organisers announced the decision on Friday in a series of tweets on their official Twitter account.

Following crowd trouble at their stadium last month, the NFF's Organising and Disciplinary committee handed down punishment, including a three-game banishment from their home stadium in Jos to Ilorin, a neutral venue.

The club refused to honour those fixtures, and wrote to the LMC claiming to be in possession of a court order nullifying the election of the current NFF and refusing to be bound by any order made by the board or any of its committees.

Their reasons were rejected by the LMC, but the club still refused to play the fixtures, with the last being Wednesday's scheduled game against Enyimba.

Giwa FC have also been fined a total of N10.25 million for missing that last fixture, in addition to other fines for missing the previous two.

All results involving Giwa FC have been automatically nullified.
