JDT agree to give Malaysia Cup prize money to victims of Penang floods

Newly crowned Malaysia Cup winners Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) have agreed to donate their prize money from the tournament to flood victims in Penang.

Malaysian Super League champions JDT sealed a domestic double when they defeated Kedah 2-0 in Saturday's cup final, with goals from Aidil Zafuan and Gonzalo Cabrera.

But after the celebrations for the club's first-ever success in the Malaysia Cup, thoughts turned to their stricken compatriots in the north of the country.

"We have provided aid to state governments over the years and JDT will continue to do the same," club president Tunku Tun Aminah Binti Sultan Ibrahim said in a statement released on The Southern Tigers' Facebook page.

"Football Club JDT FC and its players have decided to give our Malaysia Cup prize money to the flood victims in Penang."

The statement also highlighted previous efforts that demonstrate JDT's commitment to worthy causes off the football pitch, including support for flood victims in Pahang and Kelantan, and earthquake victims in Sabah.

Many players from the four-time Malaysian Super League champions will seek to lift the country's spirits on Friday as Malaysia face North Korea in neutral Thailand in an AFC Asian Cup qualifier.

No fewer than 10 of the JDT squad have made the trip to Buriram for the double header with their Group B rivals.
