Jordan Webb could be considered for Singapore - new FAS boss Lim

Canadian-born winger Jordan Webb could be finally given a chance to play for Singapore.

Webb, who's been in good form for Warriors FC after his preseason move from Tampines Rovers, is one of a trio of S.League foreign talent being considered for Singapore's 2019 AFC Asian Cup campaign.

The others are French-born defender Sirina Camara, and his South Korean teammate Song Ui Yong, both of Home United. All three have completed a five-year residency which makes them eligible to represent their adopted nation.

New Football Association of Singapore (FAS) president Lim Kia Tong says he's spoken to national coach V. Sundramoorthy about finding fresh blood for a struggling squad.

"I had a long conversation with Sundram, and I told him he must do something to bring up the national team," Lim Kia Tong told The New Paper.

"We spoke about the need for the FAS to perhaps consider bringing in well-established foreign players here, and we spoke about Song, Webb and Camara," said Lim.

"I shared with him that our focus will be to develop young players, but I've asked him to put up a strong paper and perhaps work with stakeholders on this."

After a miserable year under Sundram, including a group stage exit at the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup, Singapore made a good start to their 2019 AFC Asian Cup campaign by drawing 0-0 away to Bahrain in their opening qualifier in March.

"These boys will definitely help us," Sundram told The New Paper.

"They've been in the league long enough, they will add strength and ability to the team and help us compete at the international level."

Singapore's next qualifier is at home to Chinese Taipei on June 10, three days before they face Argentina in a friendly at the Singapore National Stadium.
