Selangor vs. Kuala Lumpur derby headlines 2016 Malaysia Cup

A local derby between Selangor and Kuala Lumpur is one of the highlights from the draw for the 2016 Malaysia Cup.

The famous competition will kick off earlier than usual in mid-July, after the international break.

Klang Valley rivals Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur were drawn together in Group B, along with Pahang and Kelantan.

Selangor are the defending champions while KL are on course to be promoted to the Malaysia Super League after a stellar campaign so far in the second tier.

MSL champs Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) have been given a relatively easy draw. They are in Group C with PKNS, PDRM FA and Perak as they chase their third trophy of the season.

Their sister club JDT II will face 2015 runners up Kedah, Sarawak and T-Team in Group A.

Group D will feature Felda United, who are in second place in the MSL, Terengganu and Premier League side Negeri Sembilan and Melaka United.

"There are no easy games in the Malaysia Cup," Selangor defender Razman Roslan told New Straits Times.

"We want to retain the title but will have to work extra hard to achieve it again."
