Philippines reinstated as AFF Suzuki Cup co-hosts along with Myanmar

The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) have reinstated the Philippines as co-hosts of the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup along with Myanmar.

The reinstatement comes as good news for the Philippines Football Federation (PFF) after they managed to resolve its stadium-related issues before the March. 11 deadline given by the AFF, to meet the stadium criteria.

It was reported three weeks ago that the Philippines failed to meet AFF's stadium criteria and thus, had to pull out as host, with Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore expressing immediate interest to take over.

Philippines were supposed to host all Group B games while co-host Myanmar was the venue for the Group A matches.

"We are very glad to receive the support from the AFF Council and now we can move on and work towards hosting a successful Suzuki Cup," said PFF general secretary Atty Edwin Gastanes in a media release on the AFF website.

"Both hosts will have a lot of work to do as this is the first time that both countries will be hosting the AFF Suzuki Cup and we have to make sure that we do everything possible."

PFF president Mariano Araneta added: "We feel confident that we can draw the attendance required and we are already taking steps to make sure that we go in the right direction.

"The AFF Suzuki Cup, for us, is more important than the World Cup qualifiers, so we are confident that we can deliver what is expected."

The tournament has been scheduled for Nov. 19 to Dec. 17 with defending champions Thailand set to defend their title under the charge of Kiatisuk Senamuang.
