Toshiya Miura sacked by Vietnam after AFC U23 Championships

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) executive board got together on Thursday to cast their votes on the coach's future.

Miura, 52, coached Vissel Kobe, Omiya Ardija and Ventforet Kofu in the J-League before moving to Southeast Asia in 2014 to take charge of the Vietnam national team.

Under his charge, Vietnam have yet to win a title and with the U23 team's exit at the group stage in Qatar last week. After losing all three of their group matches, it was reported that 11 of the 16 VFF members voted to relieve the coach of his duties.

Miura's position is likely to be replaced by a local coach, with the Vietnamese media backing legendary striker Le Huynh Duc as the favourite to take over.

Vietnam's next two matches will be the AFC World Cup 2018 qualifiers where they take on Taiwan and Iraq on Mar. 24 and 29, respectively.
