Gianni Infantino wants 2026 World Cup co-hosted by 'three or four' nations

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said the 2026 World Cup could be co-hosted by three or four countries using four or five grounds each.

Speaking during a visit to 2022 hosts Qatar, he said the move would be "in line with our sustainability and legacy policies."

"We will encourage co-hosting for the World Cup because we need FIFA to show we are reasonable and we have to think about sustainability long-term," he added.

"It is perfectly in line with our sustainability and legacy [policies] to maybe bring together two, three, four countries who can jointly present a project with three, four, five stadiums each.

"Ideally, the countries will be close to each other for the sake of ease of travel."

Infantino also stressed that he was "not at all concerned" about the prospect of hooliganism problems at the 2018 World Cup, which is being hosted by Russia.
