Harry Redknapp signs one-year deal to stay on as Birmingham manager

Birmingham have announced that Harry Redknapp has signed a one-year contract to stay on as manager.

Redknapp, 70, guided Birmingham to Championship survival after taking over from Gianfranco Zola with three games of the season remaining.

The former West Ham, Tottenham and QPR boss led the Blues to two wins as they avoided relegation by two points.

A statement on the official Birmingham website said: "Redknapp held talks with the club's owners and board of directors this week and finalised the details of his contract last night.

"The composition of his backroom team will be revealed in due course."

Redknapp had made it clear he would be open to becoming permanent manager but wanted assurances on the club's ambition and transfer budget.

Birmingham are reported to have cash to spend in the summer, even after Zola spent around £10 million in January.
