Anderlecht's Andy Najar: 'I don't want to go back' to Belgium

Anderlecht's Andy Najar has followed his teammate Matias Suarez in suggesting that he will have to leave Belgium in the wake of this week's suicide bombings in Brussels.

At least 31 people were killed in attacks on an airport and a city-centre metro station on Tuesday, prompting Najar and Suaraz to consider their future in the Belgian capital.

Argentine attacker Suarez, 27, told ESPN Radio in Argentina that he now wants to leave Anderlecht at the end of the season and would do "everything possible" to secure a return to his homeland.

Ex-D.C. United player Najar, who has been converted from a right winger to an attacking full-back this season, also said he might have to move.

Najar, 23, is currently on international duty with Honduras but his wife and two children were still in Brussels when the attacks occurred.

"I was so nervous and scared," he told the Washington Post. "I called her like crazy as soon as I could. They are afraid. They want to leave."

Najar, who joined Anderlecht in 2013, said he no longer felt safe in Belgium.

"I'm afraid for my family," he said. "I don't want anything to happen to them or happen to me. It's dangerous. I want to be safe. It would be best for me to leave here.

"In every country, it can happen. But Belgium is bad right now. I don't want this life for my family. I love playing for Anderlecht. It has allowed me to become a better player. But at the moment, I don't want to go back."

Anderlecht will return to action when the Belgian championship playoffs begin on the first weekend of April. They are currently third in the table and have 10 more games to play until the end of the season.

Suarez, who has been at the club since 2008, almost joined French side Nantes in January. Both he and Najar had already been linked with moves away from Anderlecht this summer.
