Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti: Hertha Berlin draw a fair result

Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti said his side deserved their point as Robert Lewandowski salvaged a 1-1 draw at Hertha Berlin with the last kick of the game.

Bayern trailed at the break to Vedad Ibisevic's goal midway through the first half, and Ancelotti's side failed to match the standards set in Wednesday's 5-1 Champions League demolition of Arsenal as they struggled to break down a resolute Hertha defence.

However, with the allocated five minutes of added time already played, substitute Lewandowski stepped up to poke home from close range from a cleverly worked free-kick routine to salvage a point.

Speaking at the postmatch news conference, Ancelotti said: "We knew it would be a difficult game here.

"Hertha played well in the first half with a lot of commitment. It was different in the second period and we put them under a lot of pressure. We deserved our goal and in the end a draw is a fair result."

Lewandowski's leveller -- timed at 95 minutes and 59 seconds -- was the latest goal to be scored in the Bundesliga since detailed records began in 2004-05, and the Poland international said after the game: "Scoring a goal in the 96th minute is something special."

Thomas Muller started up front in place of Lewandowski but could not add to his solitary Bundesliga goal for Bayern this season.

"We conceded a goal from a free kick, then Hertha were just defending and trying to waste time," Muller told Sky Deutschland.

"But we gave it absolutely everything until the end. We have that mentality to keep going. Obviously equalising so late feels good, but we would have preferred to win."

Captain Philipp Lahm also praised his side's fighting qualities.

"We came here with the intention of winning the game and I don't think we played too bad," Lahm said. "We regularly found a lot space in wide areas, but our final ball was often missing. But we always believe we can score."

The draw saw Bayern move eight points clear of RB Leipzig, who play at Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday.
