Carlo Ancelotti hoping to meet Pep Guardiola in Champions League final

Pep Guardiola will face former club Bayern Munich in his first game in charge of Manchester City, and Carlo Ancelotti is hoping they will meet again in the final game of the season -- the Champions League final.

On Wednesday, Guardiola returns to the Allianz Arena where he won three Bundesliga titles but failed to win the Champions League in his three years there.

Former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Ancelotti wants to build on the efforts of his predecessor and said that the Spaniard's work "will be important this year."

He told a news conference: "I want to use the characteristics of this team, the quality in possession and the good organisation.

"Pep Guardiola's style was very good and beautiful. I hope the players don't forget that, it was a good experience.

"Everyone has his own style, I want to bring in my ideas this year."

City have an awkward two-legged playoff to qualify for the Champions League group stage where they could then potentially be drawn with Bayern. However, Ancelotti would rather wait until June's final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

"I hope we'll meet in Cardiff next time. That would be good for us and our clubs," he said.

This week's friendly will be Ancelotti's first in charge at the Allianz Arena following a 4-3 win at Lippstadt and the Italian says he is looking for a strong performance.

And he says he won't be speaking to Guardiola about the squad he inherited after the game.

"Every friendly is important for us, but tomorrow is even more important as it's our first one at home," he said. "It is a good and important preseason match for both teams. I want to see a good performance.

"We won't talk about the team tomorrow. I don't need to ask him any question about it."
