Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone open to working in Mexico's Liga MX

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has said he is open to the idea of coaching in Mexico or anywhere in the world.

Simeone's contract with Atletico is currently set to finish in 2018 with his future beyond that still uncertain.

"I would never close the door on any job because I like to work, I like football. And football is not just in Europe, it is not just in one club, so I always keep an open mind," Simeone said following the first game of Atletico's preseason campaign, a goalless draw against Mexican side Toluca.

"I would never close the door on coaching in Mexico. Football is not just in Europe, there is football all over the world so I am always open to the idea of managing anywhere in the world.

"Liga MX is a great environment, the fans are very enthusiastic. They participate the entire time and they support their team and for our first match we think it went well.

"It isn't easy to play at this altitude [8,750 feet in Toluca] and I think we handled it well."

Simeone praised fellow Argentine Rubens Sambueza's performance for Toluca in the game.

"He is a different kind of player and when he gets the ball you feel that sensation of danger," he said.

Simeone has won La Liga, the Europa League and reached two Champions League finals since taking over at Atletico in January 2011.
