Dr Tony Xia's Recon Group completes Aston Villa takeover

Aston Villa have confirmed that the Recon Group, owned by Dr Tony Xia, has completed its takeover of the club.

Chinese businessman Xia, who agreed to buy the club from Randy Lerner in May, passed the English Football League's fit and proper person test this week and has now completed the deal.

Villa, who will play in the Championship next season following their relegation, have already appointed Roberto Di Matteo as their new manager, with his former Chelsea teammate Steve Clarke as assistant.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Aston Villa is delighted to confirm the sale of the Club to Recon Group, owned by Dr Tony Xia.

"The competition of 100 per cent ownership from Randy Lerner has been rubber-stamped by the Football League.

"Dr Xia has been informed he passed the owners and directors test and following the competition of paperwork today is now the Club's new Owner and Chairman.

"A new board will be appointed later this week."

Xia is reportedly willing to give Di Matteo up to £40 million to spend as Villa seek to return to the Premier League at the first opportunity.
