I am doing Roma a favour by not signing new contract - Spalletti

Roma head coach Luciano Spalletti is not keen to get started on talks of a new contract as his side continue to battle Juventus for the Serie A title.

A 3-0 win over Palermo on Sunday helped Roma move into second place behind league leaders Juventus, with goals from Stephan El shaarawy, Edin Dzeko and Bruno Peres.

Roma are not eight points behind Juventus, and having seen his side return to winnings ways against Palermo after a three-game losing streak before that game, Spalletti is in no mood for contract rumours.

"If I lose another two games, I won't even end the season [at Roma] because they will kick me out," said Spalletti.

"We lost four out of five games before Palermo and people keep talking about the contract?

"Things change quickly in football and, quite rightly, Roma are a strong club who need results, so they would be right to fire me.

"I think I did the club a favour by not signing a new contract and they are happy about it too!

"Last year, they fired a coach [Rudi Garcia] and had to keep paying three years of his contract. I'm doing them a favour."

Along with sitting in second place in the league standings, Roma are also in the semifinals of the Coppa Italia and the last 16 of the Europa League.
