Roma's Kevin Strootman banned for two games after Lazio goal antics

Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman has been given a two-game ban for his part in Danilo Cataldi's sending-off in Sunday's Derby della Capitale with Lazio.

Strootman scored a 64th-minute opener in his side's 2-0 win, and while celebrating he squirted water at the Lazio bench before collapsing on the floor when unused substitute Cataldi grabbed his neck.

Cataldi was sent off and Strootman booked for over-celebrating, but the latter was on Tuesday banned for Roma's upcoming Serie A matches against AC Milan and Juventus.

Lega Serie A found that spraying water was "provocative" but could not be considered "violent conduct or seriously unsportsmanlike conduct."

However, footage of referee Luca Banti sending off Cataldi for grabbing Strootman was reviewed, with television images confirming "obvious simulation" from the Roma player.
