Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has terms on two-year contract agreed - sources

Arsene Wenger will attend an Arsenal board meeting designed to resolve his future on Tuesday having already agreed the terms of a new two-year contract at the club as long ago as November, sources have told ESPN FC.

Wenger, 67, is out of contract at the end of June and uncertainty continues to hang over his position at the Emirates Stadium following Saturday's FA Cup final victory against Chelsea at Wembley -- a success which secured a record 13th FA Cup for Arsenal and a seventh for Wenger since his arrival as manager in 1996.

The Frenchman stopped short of clarifying his situation in the wake of Saturday's 2-0 win, saying only that he believes he is still the best man for the job.

Sources have told ESPN FC, however, that Wenger wants to remain at the helm and that the broad outline of an extended contract was agreed, but not signed, six months ago.

Arsenal's subsequent failure to sustain a challenge for the Premier League title, coupled with their humiliating round-of-16 exit from the Champions League against Bayern Munich via a 10-2 aggregate defeat, prompted an upsurge in anti-Wenger sentiment among a vocal section of the club's supporters.

With Arsenal ending the league campaign outside the top four, and therefore missing out on Champions League qualification, the FA Cup success against Chelsea has done little to quell unrest among some supporters.

Wenger's future is likely to rest in the hands of majority shareholder Stan Kroenke, who supports the manager, with chief executive Ivan Gazidis also prepared to retain the former Monaco coach on the proviso that changes are made behind the scenes in order to ensure that the club can make a smooth transition to a new manager once Wenger eventually vacates his position.

But crucially, the two-year deal agreed by Wenger in November remains in place and sources expect it to be signed if his authority remains unchallenged by any changes requested by Gazidis and the board.
