Arsenal's Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich laid bare by UEFA stats

Arsenal's meek collapse against Bayern Munich in Wednesday's Champions League clash has been exposed by official UEFA statistics which show that Arsene Wenger's players committed just one foul while being dismantled during the second-half in the Allianz Arena.

The Gunners must overturn a 5-1 round-of-16 first-leg deficit in the next month's return game at the Emirates if they are to progress to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2010.

Despite going in level at half-time against Carlo Ancelotti's Bundesliga leaders, Arsenal conceded four second-half goals after Laurent Koscielny limped off injured early in the second period.

After committing 10 fouls in the first half as they attempted to frustrate Bayern, Arsenal's intensity dropped off alarmingly in the second half.

Bayern edged the foul count 12-11, despite coasting to victory, although Arsenal topped the tackle charts with four in comparison to just one by the hosts.

Francis Conquelin completed just seven passes in his 77 minutes on the pitch. The only outfield player to complete less than 50 for Bayern was striker Robert Lewandowski with 17, while not one Arsenal player reached that milestone. Granit Xhaka, with 31 passes completed, was Arsenal's top performer, compared to Xabi Alonso on 108.

Arsenal played 277 passes, a figure dwarfed by Bayern's 793, and in terms of passing accuracy, Bayern hit 92 percent while Arsenal managed a success rate of only 79 percent.

Further damning statistics provided by UEFA show that Bayern had 24 attempts on goal compared to eight by the Premier League side, who had just 32 percent of possession on the night.

And to cap Arsenal's miserable night, they were outrun by Bayern, who collectively clocked up 109.5 kilometres in contrast to the 108.1km by Wenger's players.
