BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Tax officials in Argentina say the Argentine Football Association and about 10 clubs owe $9 million in unpaid taxes.
Alberto Abad, the head of the tax body, put the blame on the leadership, saying "football is a business that moves millions, but there are leaders who don't take responsibility but enjoy all the benefits."
The claim is disputed by clubs such as River Plate and others, who say they owe nothing.
The Argentine Football Association is under the emergency management of world-governing body FIFA amid charge of fraud against its top leaders.
The body has been in turmoil since the death in 2014 of strong-arm president Julio Grondona.
