African Nations Cup 2017 will not be moved from Gabon - CAF

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has denied reports it plans to change the venue for next year's African Nations Cup.

Libya was initially slated to stage the 2017 edition of the competition, but due to instability in the country, CAF switched the final tournament's host nation to Gabon in 2014.

However, Gabon is now enduring a difficult period following the contested re-election of Ali Bongo as the country's president in August, with protests a regular occurrence.

This has led to speculation Gabon may lose the right to host the tournament, which starts on Jan. 14, but CAF have denied any such plans are in the pipeline.

"Persistent rumours that have been doing the rounds on social media in recent days and that are now being reported by news outlets talk about 2017 ANC being delocalised," a CAF statement read.

"CAF wants to remind everyone, as reiterated by its president, Issa Hayatou, several times in a number of interviews, there has never been a question of finding a replacement country to stage the 2017 CAN."

Gabon previously co-hosted the 2012 tournament with Equatorial Guinea, when Zambia beat Ivory Coast in the final for their first ever continental title.
