Uganda edge Comoros to qualify for first African Nations Cup in 38 years

Uganda defeated Comoros 1-0 to qualify for their first African Nations Cup in 38 years on Sunday.

Farouk Miya scored the game's only goal at a packed Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala thanks to an assist from Moses Oloya on 35 minutes.

The historic result leaves Milutin Sredojevic's side with 13 points, giving them second place in Group D.

Burkina Faso topped the group on the strength of head-to-head record with a 2-1 defeat of Botswana.

Banou Diawara scored a 90th-minute winner in a match that saw two Botswana players and one from Burkina Faso sent off.

Joining Uganda and Burkina Faso in the 2017 edition of the competition on the day were Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Togo and Tunisia.

In other matches, Congo edged Guinea-Bissau 1-0, while Zambia and Kenya drew 1-1 and Malawi beat Swaziland 1-0.
