FC Tokyo open AFC Champions League knockout stage with win

Kota Mizunuma scored twice as FC Tokyo opened the Round of 16 in the Asian Champions League with a 2-1 win over Shanghai SIPG on Tuesday.

Mizunuma opened the scoring with a free kick just before half-time and added his second with a well-timed volley in the 65th minute after striker Wu Lei had equalised for the Chinese Super League club.

Leonardo scored a vital away goal for Jeonbuk, helping the K-League club hold Melbourne Victory to a 1-1 draw and a slender advantage in the return leg next week on home soil.

Melbourne opened the scoring with Besart Berisha's close-range header in the fifth minute but Jeonbuk equalised eight minutes later.

Matthieu Delpierre brought down Han Kyo-won on the edge of the area and Leonardo curled the resulting free kick past Victory goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas.

In other matches, Al Nasr of the United Arab Emirates and El Jaish of Qatar will take big advantages into the second legs, while a third between Lokomotiv and Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal was in the balance.

At Dubai, Mahmoud Khamis scored a long-range goal with a minute remaining to cap Al Nasr's 4-1 home win over Iran's Tractorsazi Tabriz.

El Jaish downed fellow Qatar side Lekhwiya 4-0 in Doha.

Striker Romarinho and Hamedallah Abdurazzaq scored in the first half, Mohamed Methnani added a third nine minutes into the second, and Romarinho scored his second with four minutes remaining.

Uzbekistan goalkeeper Ignatiy Nesterov ensured Lokomotiv will go into the second leg with Al Hilal in Tashkent with a strong chance of reaching the last eight after the teams drew 0-0 at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.

Nesterov twice denied good chances by the home side.
